I was making lunch for Winter today and it occurred to me that I should share my cheese sauce recipe with you guys. It’s pretty easy to make, and you can create a few different meals with it. I’ve mainly use it for Winter’s toddler/baby meals, but you can use it for adults as well. I use whole milk in it for Winter, but you can use whatever your usual milk is. With this cheese sauce I make mac n’ cheese and broccoli/rice/cheese (pictured above). This is good for ages 6 months and up.
3 tbsp butter
3 tbsp flour
1 cup milk
1 1/4 cup cheese
salt and pepper (leave salt out for the babies)
dash of nutmeg (optional)
Melt butter in a pot on medium heat. Whisk in flour. Slowly add milk while whisking and thicken. If it’s taking a while to thicken, your heat may be too low. Once this is the consistence of a thick sauce, turn off heat and whisk in cheese a little at a time. Boom! You just got cheese sauced.
