Flip Your Books

Flipping books backwards on a shelf never occurred to me until I saw it done in a lovely Swedish AirBnB we stayed in last year. Even still, I didn’t know it was aΒ thing because, let’s be honest, it’s impractical af if you need to know the titles of the books. IΒ love collecting books, and after reading them, they tend to live on our shelves and not get taken down very often.

What’s the benefit, you ask? I think it’s a much cleaner look. If you have a ton of books, all of the colours and writing can be a bit of a visual assault. This allows you to show off your books while still keeping things somewhat minimalist. We’ve done this to our bookcase, but it’s not exactly in photo-ready condition at the moment (we use it to keep things out of Winter’s reach).

Can you get with this look, or would it drive you nuts every time you go for a book?

It’s definitely a cleaner look. I would support it if, maybe, the unread books were still turned the right way. If everything has been read…then hmm yeah, anything goes.

Funnily enough, I went looking for a book after writing this and it drove me nuts. I still like it flipped, though :p
