Lipstick Challenge

Today’s post is a little different for me because I don’t usually step into the world of beauty blogging, but I wanted to invite you in on something I’m doing. I’ve always had very full lips, and was quite embarrassed about them as a kid. Children like to latch onto something to tease and for me that was having big lips. I’ve often been told in adulthood that “people would kill for those lips,” but childhood teasing has an annoying way of sticking with you. I think this fed into my never wanting to wear lipstick and draw attention to their size.

Red, in particular, can be a tricky colour for women to find their best shade, but a few years ago I found MAC’s Russian Red, which is perfect for me. Since kicking in the lipstick door with Russian Red, I also discovered MAC’s Rebel and the occasional hot pink. I tend to only wear these when my band plays shows, but I’ve decided to challenge myself to wear lipstick everyday.

I don’t wear very much makeup– typically brow powder (if I can be bothered) and mascara is all I wear, but when I do put on a full face of make-up it makes a huge difference to my appearance. I don’t want to look like a different person, but I would like to start making a little more effort, which is why I think the simple addition of lipstick could be fun to try. I’m challenging myself to try wearing lipstick everyday to see how I feel. If I like it, I’ll start trying new colours and, who knows, eventually even some blush!

Do you wear lipstick? What’s your shade?

this colour looks fabulous on you! i too am not a big makeup person though i do spend time researching it, obsessing over finding the right shade/finish, and buying it lolol. i’ve actually been having a lot of fun with lipstick lately too! i have mac’s russian red but find it slightly too orange for me (though maybe i should give it another try?) – my go to red is mac’s ruby woo…it’s the perfect classic red on me. flat out fabulous (also by mac) is a really fun hot pink/fuchsia that i’ve been enjoying this summer on the weekends…and mac diva is a more vampy red that i also like. my go to “neutral” is bobbi brown’s cocoa – it’s the perfect black girl neutral :) i have a few more but can’t remember the names lololol. really like this challenge of yours – i’ve been thinking of doing some beauty posts on my blog too!

MAC is really the best. I’ve tried getting cheaper lipsticks and typically the coverage just isn’t as good. The Russian Red is defo orangey, but I think that’s what I like about it! I may have to try the Flat Out Fabulous. Right now, I have Rebel, which is a purpley-pink on me, but I want something a little brighter. Let me know if you start rocking more lipstick!

oh and don’t get met started on blush – a recent discovery that i’m having SO much fun with! it’s funny, just a little bit of either (or a little bit of both) can add such a finished pulled together look.

Russian Red is definitely your colour! You have one of those faces that looks beautiful with both minimal and bold make up, you lucky lady! I used to really like bright lip colours. Cherries in the Snow from Revlon was my ultimate love, but whenever I put it on now it’s almost like it instantly makes me look 10 years older and I’m not cool with that haha! x

Thanks, Jennie! Red can have a funny way of ageing women! Maybe you should try out some new shades? Russian Red comes out orangey on me, which I think helps make it more playful xx
