I am very nervous and excited today because I’ve just pressed go on my first Kickstarter project I’ve been quietly working on since last year. It’s a children’s book I’ve been writing and illustrating to help kids learn Mandarin Chinese! Seem random? It isn’t, really. I’ve been studying Mandarin on and off since I was a teenager and my son has a Chinese-Malaysian grandmother, so I’ve been seeking ways to help introduce the language to him. He loves books and finding any in this area has been very hard. Any I’ve found are Chinese translations of popular kids books. Even those are hard to find, but even still, they are a bit advanced for me as a non-native speaker. I wrote this book (which I hope will become the first of a series) so that any parent can introduce Chinese to their little one. Since I started learning as a kid, more and more schools are offering Chinese and more parents want to introduce the language to their kids. It’s not printed yet, which is why I’m doing the Kickstarter project. I want to print the book as a board book, so that babies and toddlers can handle it without tearing the pages. I wouldn’t be able to make this happen without crowdfunding, so if this appeals to you, please click over to the Kickstarter. If it’s not for you, I hope you’ll consider sharing it to your friends.
The Kickstarter page for the project is full of more details, a video, and rewards, so please click over for details! xxx
