Guys, I need to talk to you, and I’m not even joking. I ran across the top image and stopped in my tracks because it’s basically amazing. Don’t hold me to it, but I am pretty sure that at least some of the paintings in that photo are paint-by-number paintings. It has all of the tell-tale signs– kitsch content, a small colour range, and bold blocks of colour. I haven’t done one of these since I was about 10 years old, but now I’m obsessed with finding and doing one for my gallery wall!
All of these thoughts occurred within a two minute span, causing me to look around for some good paint-by-number kits and examples of them in homes. Pickings for good kits are slim. It looks like some of the best designs are vintage, and there are some beautiful pre-painted examples on Etsy for cheap! I haven’t found any vintage designs that aren’t already painted, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
This is a really affordable and fun way to build up a gallery wall or add colour to a room. I’ve seen kits range from £4-50 depending on size. Obviously, you have to choose carefully so you don’t go overboard on the kitsch, but this is a great project for anyone, even if you aren’t artistically inclined.
I think I’ve settled on a design to paint first, so I’ll share it if I go ahead and purchase. I’m keeping a blogging schedule of Monday/Wednesday/Friday right now, so if you ever want to see what I’m up to on off days, follow me on Instagram! Sometimes things make it there before they hit the blog.
