Ahead of moving into our new flat, I’ve been pinning like mad trying to organise my ideas. At first I didn’t know where to start, but I feel like things are starting to come together. One thing I’ve been trying to work out is the order that we should tackle things when there are so many things we’d like to do. I’ve decided that the best approach is to start with paint, shelving, and tile.
The new flat has an open plan living room and kitchen combination, so I’d like to use tiling in the kitchen to try to try to create a defined kitchen area. I always thought I’d want to go with the subway tile look, but after researching lots of gorgeous kitchens, I honed in on simple white square tiles. The black grout creates a really lovely grid. That cool geometric effect is lost with white grout and makes for a more average look, so the darker grout is a must.
Another thing I’m obsessed with is the trim in the third picture. Is that wood? If that’s wood, I WANT THAT. I like to have a “spirit picture” to help me stay centred when I’m redecorating, and the third kitchen is serving as that for me. That doesn’t mean that I try to copy the image like-for-like in my home, it just means that I compare the things I’m doing to that picture to see if what I’m doing is on the right track with my goals. I find it really helpful!
What do you think of the square tiles? Do you prefer subway tiles?
